Entry Description

This renovated hotel demanded a graceful facade illumination that would complement the its own history. The main facade was naturally illuminated with interior lighting from windows and required minimal external treatment such as the narrow bands below windows illuminated with sleek linear grazers. Temple gopuram-inspired design of the reception back drop wall was illuminated using special linear power grazer luminaires. Custom-designed decorative chandelier in the lobby is another interpretation of an inverted gopuram. Adjustable pull-out spotlights neatly concealed within ceiling slots illuminate the lounge area. Indirect lighting using coves is the primary source of illumination supplemented by decorative pendants with LED filament lamps that provide a retro look for the all-day dining. Magnetic track-mounted mini-spotlights illuminate buffet counters. Artwork on banquet pre-function walls are illuminated with same linear power grazer luminaires used in lobby. Diffuse and indirect lighting in the form of custom linear profiles and cove lighting respectively is used wherever possible. The elaborate glass-metal chandelier is main focal point in large banquet hall. Smaller halls are all illuminated with a combination of ceiling coves and adjustable pull-out spotlights. Simple yet stylised lighting is used throughout the hotel provides a unified look of tradition and modernity.
Sustainability Approach

The use of retrofittable luminaires sourced from locally-based manufacturers was the prime objective of this project so to achieve a high level sustainability credits. Additionally, the inventory of the number of different types of luminaires was kept to a bare minimum to make it easy for the hotel maintenance team, while also achieving sustainability credits. Exterior and facade lighting strictly follows the international dark sky requirements for responsible outdoor lighting.
