Entry Description

The Lighting Design Studio designed the lighting for the 'Sea Shore Park' in Tel-Aviv. A pedestrian promenade, bike paths, observation decks and rest benches were all part of the site.
The challenge combined three main principles:
Functional - designing the lighting for the paths and the observation decks, creating sense of security in the park during the hours of darkness, with special reference to the proximity to the sea and the unusual climate conditions.
Environmental - creating lighting solutions with accurate level of light, to prevent light pollution and environmental damages.
An artistic lighting design, which integrated into the architectural design, and contributes to the natural charm of the park.
Using bollards on the pedestrian promenade gave us the perfect solution for the three principals.
In the big balconies and in all staircases a wooden handrail was designed, inside which we integrated lighting fixtures. The lighting fixtures painted in the color of the wooden posts, so that during the day they are invisible, and at night they illuminate and give the unique effect.
The bike path required a different solution regarding the safety of the riders without losing the principle of environmental quality. Our solution was the use of four-meter-high light poles, and light fixtures with precise photometry.
Sustainability Approach

The park meets strict environmental quality conditions and was declared a nature reserve. The lighting solutions and design comply with all the principles set by the Parks Authority, including clean skies and preventing light from leaking into the reserved areas that are not paved paths. We performed simulations and calculations to ensure the preservation of the environment, alongside the aesthetic design.
