Entry Description

The Londoner DFS Galleria is a luxury brand retail store located within "The Londoner" Integrated resort in the special administrative region on the Island of Macau.

With a strongly themed "London" styled interior, the store was split into three main sections. Cosmetics/Beauty, Children's Wear and Fashion Jewellery. All three areas were lit with 3500K colour temperature light fixtures. The lighting ratio chosen was 1:4 with the brightest on product and displays and the lowest level on the walkways. The lighting hierarchy followed the following simple principle of 1. Product Display, 2 . Wall-bay, 3. Themed or Decorative element, and 4. Corridor or walkway.

Backlit features or self illuminated decorative elements were used to express the interior designed features of the outlet. Elements such as the central spine in the main shopping area, the decorative ceiling feature in fashion jewellery and the faux backlit rafters in children's wear all played a part in expressing the London themed store's playful shopping experience. Note that the central spine could not be lit uniformly due to lighting power density requirements, so a simple technique of side lighting the ceiling cavity was used to allude to a playful coloured skylight. Finally the entrance facades were lit in silhouette, to express the black wrought ironwork alluding to the old London Underground.

Sustainability Approach

DFS is part of the LVMH group have their own green guidelines and rules for the specifying and return of luminaires once their lifetime has ended. As recommended by DFS/LVMH, Forma Lighting who were the main supplier for this project will take back the installed luminaires and either repurpose or recycle depending of the state of the luminaire in its returned state.
