Entry Description

The Covestro headquarters forms the core of the new corporate campus. The open floor plans enable flexible collaborative work. The interior architect designed colorful and inviting spaces for over 700 employees. The central air space with a big skylight is the architectural focal point. The surrounding light lines accentuate the geometric shape of the air space. Downlights illuminate the circulation areas and combine the colorful theme worlds with their own decorative lighting solutions. The entire lighting design was created as a BIM process with visualization and collision checking, quantity and cost determination and the creation of plan sets.
Sustainability Approach

The planning approach is based on the concept of "activity-based working - office with desk sharing". This approach reduces the space and energy consumption for the provision of workstations. For lighting, LED lighting fixtures of the latest generation were planned to achieve the longest possible service life and energy efficiency. General lighting was designed with a low indirect component in accordance with LEED requirements. The ratio of the illuminance levels of the ceiling and the working plane is about 1 to 10. The glare reduction of the downlights was planned according to the LEED specifications for luminance limitation. The lighting system was designed to be dimmable with DALI interfaces and can be adjusted according to the daylight level. Digital dimming enables the optimization of the service life of the light sources.
