Entry Description

The light concept design for the BASF office in Montevideo is focused on creating a harmonious environment where plants and people can coexist. The project comprises of two layers, with the first being a ceiling with interior plants. The plants are illuminated with artificial lighting through luminaries that emit a spectrum specifically designed to contribute to the photosynthesis. This lighting system not only supports the growth of the plants but also adds a natural element to the space, creating a refreshing atmosphere.
The second layer of the project consists of electrical tracks that feature tunable white system spots, specifically designed for the people who work in the office space, allowing the light to be adjusted based on the time of day and the needs of the employees. This system takes into account the natural circadian rhythm of the human body, adjusting the color temperature and brightness of the lights throughout the day to mimic the changes in natural daylight. In the morning, the lights will be cooler and brighter, which helps to stimulate alertness and improve mood. As the day progresses, the lights will gradually become warmer and dimmer, which can help to promote relaxation and prepare the body to rest.
Sustainability Approach

The light concept is not only focused on improving the workspace, but also on sustainability, creating a more sustainable and efficient building that benefits both the environment and the occupants of the building.
The tunable lighting system, which is controlled by DALI to generate different scenes, is an energy-efficient lighting solution that can help to reduce the environmental impact. By controlling both the lighting levels and color temperature, this system can reduce energy consumption based on the time of day or occupancy of a room.
The goal of the concept is to provide a more natural and comfortable environment for employees, which can lead to increased productivity and well-being. The inclusion of the plant-filled ceiling and the tunable white system spots cater to the needs of both the plants and the people, making this space a perfect blend of nature and technology.
